How It’s Made

After exploring other alternatives including mealworm and crickets, Enterra found the most benefits and applications from producing Black Soldier Flies. They have an extremely efficient lifecycle, require a considerably limited amount of space and water, and are a natural part of many animals’ diets.

We started small, and now have a large facility in Rocky View County, Alberta, Canada to grow and produce our Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae, or “grubs.” Here’s how we take the Flies from production to feed ingredient:

  • BSF adults emerge from our broodstock larvae
  • BSF adults mate and allow us to harvest eggs
  • BSF larvae are raised from egg to prepupae
  • BSF larvae are harvested (small % move into reproduction phase for next generation)
  • BSF are dried
  • BSF are inspected for quality assurance
  • BSF are ready for purchase

Quality Assurance

To ensure EnterraGrubs™ adhere to the high quality and safety standards listed in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and American Association of Feed Control Officials (AAFOC) regimes, production facilities are regularly checked for heavy metals, mycotoxins, PCBs, dioxins, E. coli, Salmonella and total microbial load.
